I not only use mine for washing and straining, but for cooking as well. Because the colander is metal, I use it to steam veggies and for a deep fryer basket. It is very sturdy so I can transfer right from cooking to the straining. The heavier base keeps it sitting level. It fits right in with my stainless steel, bamboo, and black décor in the kitchen. The handles make using it easy and I can hang it up for storage. It is dishwasher safe. It is also nonstick coated, so easy to clean.
